The 2016 World Series was the 112th edition of Major League Baseball's championship series, a best-of-seven playoff between the National League champions Chicago Cubs and the American League champions Cleveland Indians.

This was the sixth time the Cleveland Indians made it to the World Series. The Indians last won the World Series championship in 1948. This was the eleventh time the Chicago Cubs made it to the World Series. The Cubs won their second championship since 1908. This matchup features the two franchises with the longest World Series title droughts

The Cubs defeated the Indians in seven games, marking their first World Series win in 108 years. They clinched the series in Game 7 with an 8–7 victory in extra innings.
