The Lynchburg Hillcats are the A advanced affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds . The Hillcats play at Calvin Falwell Field in Lynchburg, Virginia. Before becoming the Hillcats,they were also called the Lynchburg Mets which brought up players such as Lenny " Nails" Dykstra, and Dwight Gooden, who helped the Mets win the 1983 Carolina League championship. The Hillcats play in the Northern Division of the Carolina league against teams such as the Wilmington Blue Rocks, Frederick Keys, and the Potomac Nationals.
The Hillcats main rival is the Salem Avalanche,affiliate of the Houston Astros in 2008 but 2009 affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Hillcats and Avalanche live only about 60 miles from each other with the Avalanche calling Salem, Virginia home. The Hillcats wear uniforms of white with Hillcats in green on the front of the jersey and white pants with green socks and a black hat with HC on the front. On June 13, 2008 the Hillcats celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Lynchburg Mets winning the Carolina League by wearing throwback uniforms and calling themselves the Lynchburg Mets. The Hillcats have been home to Stars such as Nate Mclouth, Aramis Ramirez,and Zach Duke.
