Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani ('大谷 翔平 Ōtani Shōhei, born July 5, 1994) is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher and designated hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball. He is the two-way player in MLB, meaning that he can pitch in some games and can hit in other games that he did not start. He does both of them in a same game when he starts pitching and placed in the 2nd spot in the Angels' lineup card (forgoing the designated hitter) in the same game on Sunday, April 4, 2021 (Easter); this has not been accomplished for a usual MLB pitcher since 1903 (118 years).[1][2] In the 1st inning of that same game, he threw the 101-mph fastball on the top 1st inning and hit a 450-foot solo home run on the bottom 1st inning.[3] However, he was injured in that game in the later inning. He participated in the 2021 Home Run Derby, but he was eliminated in the 1st round by Salvador Perez.

For the 2021 MLB season, Shohei was voted the unanimous AL MVP with all 30 1st-place votes for him.[4][5]
