Roger Clemens perhaps one of the best pitchers of all time got some of the best news of his life today. The judge in Clemen's perjury trial ruled the trial a mistrial after declaring that the evidence they had against Clemens was out of bounds. The US government perhaps hit the greatest foul ball by allowing this trial to happen. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton was quoted as saying "There are rules that we play by and those rules are designed to make sure both sides receive a fair trial."
While Clemens is currently off the hook, he may not be permanently off the hook for his perjury charges. Walton has proclaimed that he will have another hearing on September 2 to determine whether or not a new trial case should begin. If a new trial case was to begin, Clemens could still look at the possible at facing jail time.
It seems to me that a new trial seems like an additional waste of taxpayer's money and that the government shouldn't go after Roger Clemens again. What are your thoughts and feelings on this?
