There were several organizations that used the title - Western Association. The first operated as an Independent League from 1888 to 1891, from 1894 as a Class A League, 1895 to 1898 as a Class B circuit and 1899 a Class C. Then as a Class C League in 1906-1910, 1922-1932, 1934-1942, 1946-1954, and Class D League 1911, 1914-1917, 1920-1921.

1888 to 1892[]

1888   Chicago IL, Des Moines IA, Kansas City MO, Milwaukee WI, Minneapolis MN, Omaha NE, St Paul MN, St Louis MO. During the season, the Minneapolis franchise moved to Davenport, IA and the St Louis franchise moved to Sioux City, IA.

1889    Denver CO, Minneapolis MN, and St Joseph MO entered the league; Chicago, Davenport and Kansas City left the league.  

1890    Kansas City, Mo entered the league; St Joseph left the league. During the season, the Des Moines franchise moved to Lincoln NE.

1891    During the season, the St Paul franchise moved to Dultuh, MN.

1892 Unknown

1906-1911[]

1906   Joplin MO, Leavenworth KS, Oklahoam City OK,  St Joseph MO, Springfield MO, Topeka KS, Webb City MO and Wichita KS. During the season, the St Joseph franchise moved to Hutchinson, KS.

1907    No teams entered or left the league.

1908    Enid, OK entered the league; Leavenworth left the league.

1909    Bartlesville OK, Guthrie OK, Muskogee OK and Pittsburg KS, entered the league; Hutchinson, Oklahoma City, Topeka and Wichita left the league. During the season, the Joplin franchise moved to El Reno, OK and the Webb City franchise moved to Sapulpa, OK.

1910   Joplin, MO and Tulsa, OK entered the league; Pittsburg and Springfield left the league.

1911   Coffeyville KS, Ft Smith AR, Independence KS, and Springfield MO entered the league; Bartlesville, Guthrie, El Reno and Enid left the league.

1914-1917[]

1914   Ft Smith AR, Joplin MO, Muskogee OK, McAlester Ok, Oklahoma City, OK and Tulsa Ok. During the season, the Joplin franchise moved first to Webb City, MO, then to Guthrie, OK and finally to Henryetta, OK.

1915    Denison Tx, Paris TX, and Sherman TX entered the league; Henryetta left the league.

1916       No teams entered or left the league.

1917       During the season, the Paris franchise moved to Ardmore, OK.

1920-1932[]

1920   Chickasha OK, Drumright OK, Enid OK, Ft Smith AR, Henryetta OK, Okmulgee OK, Pawhuska OK, Springfield MO

1921   No teams entered or left the league.

1922   Joplin, MO and McAlester, OK entered the league; Chickasha and Drumright left the league.

1923   Ardmore, OK entered the league; Pawhuska left the league.

1924   Bartlesville OK, Hutchinson KS, Muskogee OK, and Topeka KS entered the league; Adrmore, Enid, Henryetta and McAlester left the league. During the season the Bartlesville franchise moved to Ardmore, OK and the Joplin franchise moved to Bartlesville, OK.

1925   Independence, KS entered the league; Bartlesville, Hutchinson and Topeka left the league.

1926   McAlester, OK entered the league; Independence left the league. During the season, the Ardmore franchise moved to Joplin, MO.

1927   St Joseph, MO and Topeka, KS entered the league; Joplin and McAlester left the league. During the season, the St Joseph franchise moved to Joplin, MO.

1928   Independence, MO entered the league; Okmulgee left the league.

1929   Shawnee OK entered the league; Topkea left the league. During the season, the Muskogee franchise moved to Maud, OK.

1930   Muskogee, OK entered the league; Maud left the league.

1931   Bartlesville, OK entered the league; Shawnee left the league.

1932   During the season, the Muskogee franchise moved to Hutchinson, KS. The Joplin franchise moved to Topeka KS. The Ft Smith franchise moved to Muskogee and the Independence franchise moved to Joplin then back to Independence.

1934 to 1954[]

1934   Bartlesville OK, Hutchinson KS, Joplin MO, Muskogee OK, Ponca City OK, Springfield MO

1935   No teams entered or left the league.

1936   No teams entered or left the league.

1937   No teams entered or left the league.

1938   Ft Smith, AR and Salina, KS entered the league.

1939   St Joseph, MO and Topeka, KS entered the league; Bartlesville and Ponca City left the league.

1940   No teams entered or left the league.

1941   During the season, the St Joseph franchise moved to Carthage, MO.

1942   Carthage and Salina left the league.

1943   No league play due to World War II

1944   No league play due to World War II

1945   No league play due to World War II

1946   Leavenworth KS, St Joseph MO and Salina KS entered the league; Springfield left the league.

1947   No teams entered or left the league.

1948   During the season, the Hutchinson franchise moved to Springfield, MO.

1949   Hutchinson, KS entered the league; Springfield left the league.

1950   Enid, OK and Springfield, MO entered the league; Ft Smith and Leavenworth left the league.

1951   Fort Smith, AR entered the league; St Joseph left the league.

1952   Enid and Springfield left the league

1953   St Joseph, MO entered the league; Salina left the league.

1954   Blackwell OK, Iola KS and Ponca City OK entered the league; Salina left the league.
