The Western Carolina League was a Class D league which ran from 1948–1952, then combined with the North Carolina State League to form the Tar Heel League in 1953. The second Western Carolina League was formed as a class A circuit in 1960. After three years the name was changed to the Western Carolinas League. Also there was an Independent League that played in 1926

Hickory NC, Lenoir NC, Morgantown NC, Newtown NC, Taylorville NC, Valdese NC

1948-1952[]

1948     Forest City NC, Henderson NC, Lenoir NC, Lincolnton NC, Marion NC, Morganton NC, Newton-Conover NC, Shelby NC

1949     No teams entered or left the league.

1950     Gastonia, NC entered the league; Henderson left the league.

1951     Granite Falls, NC entered the league; Gastonia left the league.

1952     Hickory, NC entered the league; Granite Falls, Lenoir and Newton-Conover left the league.

1960-1962[]

1960     Gastonia NC, Hickory NC, Lexington NC, Newton-Conover NC, Salisbury NC, Shelby NC, 'Rutherfordton County' NC, Statesville NC

1961     Belmont, NC entered the league; Gastonia, Hickory and 'Rutherfordton County' left the league.

1962     Belmont and Lexington left the league.
